In
the Center of downtown Estes Park, the original Hupp Hotel was
built in 1906. LONIGANS is in the former Lobby of this old world-class
resort hotel. Lonigans opened as a bar in 1982. On April 5th of
1985, two best buddies, one from CSU and one from CU, decided
that with a few modifications and lots of energy, they could turn
LONIGANS SALOON into a great bar, with fun people, great food
and Live Rock n' Roll.
The
room they used for live music wasn't the best. But while looking
for ways to improve it, Bruce and Allen discovered something great.
Tearing down the drop ceiling, they found a theater. In 1940,
the owners of the Hotel added on this theater to set their resort
apart from the other hotels being built in Estes. They brought
in the best shows from Broadway, lock, stock, and set designer.
The show would play every night from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
Bruce
and Allen replaced the recessed argon lighting in the ceiling
with neon (much safer!) and the crushed red, dusty velvet curtains.
Gold leaf paint from "SHANGRI-LA" in 1940, was covered with paint
from many other productions. Today this wonderful theater hosts
the very best in LIVE ENTERTAINMENT once again! Blues-Rock-Jazz-Funk-,
if it's great dancin' music, it's "LIVE!' at LONIGANS!
